ABOUT THE AWARD

The EGAs recognize the important contribution governance professionals make in terms of best practices that build and sustain shareholder and stakeholder value. The awards underscore the critical role that good governance plays in sustaining the value of Canada’s public companies, crown corporations, government agencies, and not-for-profit organizations, contributing to the competitiveness of Canada’s economy and its capital markets.

GPC is committed to supporting and enhancing the role of the corporate secretary and governance professionals in Canada. The association’s members work on the front lines of governance. GPC is well positioned through reputation, influence and representation, to celebrate the practice of good governance in Canada.

The Excellence in Governance Awards jury panel is composed of seasoned and well-respected governance experts from across Canada.

GPC expects that the recognition winners and nominees alike will gain from these awards will further their careers, raise awareness for the key role played by governance professionals, and inspire others to follow their example.

Not- For-Profit Governance Essentials Program


An internationally recognized expert in both corporate and not-for-profit governance, Richard is the National Academic Director of The Directors Education Program (DEP) and the Not-For-Profit Governance Essentials Program (GEP) (in partnership with the Institute of Corporate Directors – ICD). Richard also serves as the Academic Director of the CUES Governance Programs in Canada. He also teaches in Rotman’s Executive MBA, OMNIUM, MBA and Executive Education Programs. Richard has lead and taught in the DEP and GEP for over 14 years, and has assisted in designing and implementing the programs at 13 universities across Canada. The DEP is recognized as one of the most robust governance programs in the world. In addition to his responsibilities with the DEP, Richard has worked with numerous boards, associations and organizations in identifying, creating and developing best governance practices. He is a director and committee member of several not-for-profit organizations and frequently comments on legal and governance issues in various media across Canada.

AVERY RAQUEL, Canadian, singer/songwriter, and recording artist

Avery Raquel, started in the entertainment industry at a very young age, from television and radio, to animation, voice-over work and a number of professional stage productions across Canada. Avery calls her sound “contemporary soul”. The first single from her third album ‘Come Right Back To You’ debuted on the iTunes Canada Top 200 RnB/Soul song chart at #23, while the album itself debuted at #11 on the Canadian iTunes Top 200 RnB/Soul chart.

As a performer, Avery has taken the stage across North America, including at some famed New York City clubs like Birdland Jazz club, Metropolitan Room and Don’t Tell Mama Cabaret, as well as top Canadian venues like Koerner Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, The Jazz Bistro, Lula Lounge, Hugh’s Room, and many more.

She has also been fortunate to the share the stage and studio with the likes of Juno and Grammy winning artist David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Matt Dusk, Holly Cole, June Garber, Molly Johnson, and other prominent International artists. She’s taken masterclasses with legends like Marilyn Maye, Danilo Pérez, and June Garber... Don’t miss her performance at the Excellence in Governance Awards this year at the Carlu on October 25th
